That kind of erases women’s agency. A woman can freely choose to wear a hijab or a habit, without that choice being the result of internalized misogyny. She has the ability to engage with the meaning of her religious practices and decide what they mean for herself. Just as high heels can either be read as either empowering or oppressive, so can a hijab.
